Historic Charleston Photography Workshop

From the historic Rainbow Row to the verdant plantations, Charleston, SC is a visual delight. Learn from professional photographers Stan Foxworthy and Robert Penchick as they take you on an educational and creatively inspiring tour of Travel + Leisure Magazine’s Best City.

Mornings will begin with seminars on the latest Olympus technology as Stan and Robert share their expertise and answer questions in this casual workshop environment. We will review the plans for the day’s activities and discuss photographic techniques and challenges we may face.

Thursday – Check In and meet the other attendees for Happy Hour. Get a good night’s rest for the learning and adventure that awaits you the next day.

Friday – Breakfast at the hotel with a class on architectural and travel photography. Begin your Charleston exploration with a guided historic walking tour of Charleston with certified guide Sharon Foxworthy. There will be time to explore the city on your own before a wrap up seminar at 4:00 p.m. Then it’s off to dinner at one of Charleston’s Beard Award winning restaurants.

Saturday – Saturday’s morning class will focus on environmental location portraits and off camera flash/lighting. Building on Friday’s experiences, attendees will have the opportunity to put what they have learned to practical application. Saturday evening provides an opportunity to use your fast lenses and night photography skills to capture the Holy City at night. Church steeples, neon, and the gas lights that grace centuries old homes provide limitless subject matter.

Sunday – Optional day at the country’s oldest public garden, Magnolia Plantation. $149pp all inclusive, which covers transportation, all admissions, Audubon Swamp, Boat Ride, House tour and lunch at the Plantation. A brief 30 minute ride and you will be transported back 300 years to a perfectly maintained and preserved rice plantation. Explore the native geography on a swamp tour, where visitors see alligators in their natural habitat. Located in planting zones 8/9, there is something in bloom every month of the year at Magnolia. Plus, the Peacocks-in-Residence always prove to be friendly models.
*Workshop itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions, but regardless, this will be a fun and worthwhile learning experience.
