PA EXTREME RURAL

PENNSYLVANIA EXTREME RURAL

A trek through very rural North-Central area of Pennsylvania known as the Lumber Heritage Region, takes us though quaint towns, seemingly unending forests, tiny villages and down dirt, gravel and ice covered roads.
It just so happens that this journey occurred on one of the coldest January weekends in memory.
The journey starts in Tioga County in the historic, gas-lit, Victorian town of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, “The Home of Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon.” Otherwise known as Pine Creek Gorge, This natural phenomenon is 50 miles long and 1,000 feet deep.

Down steep and winding dirt roads on the way to the canyon floor.

Farms from an earlier age are few and far between.

Morning in Wellsboro brings some of the coldest temperatures of the year.

Nothing satisfies more on a bitter cold Pennsylvania morning than a hearty Breakfast at the famous WELLSBORO DINER! Since 1939 the Famous Local Landmark is considered” The Best Classic Diner in America. A warm breakfast topped off by a Giant chocolate cookie makes the cold go away.

Traveling west on Scenic PA Route 6 we find the PENNSYLVANIA LUMBER MUSEUM. Situated in the forested and mountainous Allegany Plateau region, an area that was the historic center of the state’s lumber industry. Today, Pennsylvania is still 60% covered by forests.

Heading west on PA Route 154 we pass large open fields, hills, curves and abandoned farm houses.

Continuing on PA Route 154 we encounter the TINY village of Shunk, PA. A definite step back in time.

A 1950 Packard Deluxe serves as the center piece for this tiny village.

It’s a good thing they added the custom seat covers!

Onward to the village of Forksville, PA. The home of WORLDS END STATE PARK.
