Where The Heck is Riegelsville?

"Where The Heck is Riegelsville?"

Robert Penchick

Riegelsville is a peaceful and quiet town located in northern Bucks County, Pennsylvania. On a walk along the Delaware river canal we enjoyed the incredible Fall weather and foliage of this historic eastern Pennsylvania town.

Completed in 1832, the Delaware Canal carried coal, stone, iron, crops, and goods from the mills along the 60 miles from Easton to Bristol, Pennsylvania.

The locally “Famous” Riegelsville Bridge is formally named the Riegelsville Roebling Bridge and spans the Delaware River to Riegelsville, New Jersey. Founded by Benjamin Riegel, the towns were named for the Riegel family, as early landowners; they established paper mills across the river in New Jersey. The Bridge was built in 1904 by the John A. Roebling’s Sons Co. of New York with SA Cooney as the Engineer.

Directly on the New Jersey side of the bridge is Hoots Riverside Taproom. Recently having undergone extensive renovations, this local landmark was closed for an extended period. It is known as the Bar where your grandfather got his first beer.

Hoots Riverside Taproom sits next to the railroad tracks that run through Riegelsville, New Jersey.

Back over the Bridge to return north on the Delaware canal towpath.
